The
Pakistani Students Alliance at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State
University was founded on August 29, 1994. Over the years,
PakSA
has been
involved in a number of social and cultural events.
From
giving tours of the entire campus the night before classes begin, to our
regular BBQ’s and potlucks at Cranwell, to staying up all night cleaning
chicken and coordinating dances for the Street Fair and Luncheon,
PakSA
has strived to provide the Pakistani students at Virginia Tech a home away
from home atmosphere.
PakSA
is a Virginia Tech international student organization run by Pakistani
students who are actively pursuing their education, while at the same time
striving to promote the ideology, culture and heritage of Pakistan within
the University community. We strive to build bridges among the different
cultures and traditions within and outside Pakistan.
Families
in the Roanoke, Lynchburg, Salem and the New River Valley area have always
been an integral part of
PakSA. We have always been dependent on them for
their everlasting support and commitment towards the establishment and
smooth running of
PakSA. From Iftaars and Eid dinners, to our small Ghazal
concerts, they have been the core foundation of
PakSA’s
success.
PakSA
experienced a period of inactivity during the academic years of 1999-2000
due to some internal problems and differing points of view. With the help
of previous officers and new students,
PakSA
was reborn on September 2001.
We
would like to thank the founding fathers of
PakSA
along with a select few
who, in recent years, have helped shape
PakSA
into one of the best student
organizations at Virginia Tech.
Dr Farooq Azam - 2000, Hasan
Mehmood - 1999, Adeel Zaman - 1999, Anwar Khan - 2000, Arsalan Mehmood -
2001, Ramiz Taqi - 2002, Saadat Ali Khan - 2000, Firoza Zafar - 2000,
Saleem Moon - 2004, Muhammad Ahmad Chughtai - 2004, Ansreen Shaban, Shajehan Ganny and finally all the
PakSA
members to date.
Inshallah,
with the continued support of its members, we hope that
PakSA
will
continue to make its mark and impact in the university life of its student
members and at Virginia Tech into the new millennium.
Sincerely,
PakSA
Board
